Frequently asked questions
Short answers to the questions we hear most. Cannot find yours? Ask us.
Getting started
Do I need an account?
You can look through the whole library without one. To play along, keep your progress and earn Stick Hits you need a free account — it takes an email address and a password.
Is there an app to download?
StickHits runs in your web browser on a computer, tablet or phone, so there is nothing to install. On a phone you can add it to your home screen: in Safari tap Share → Add to Home Screen; in Chrome open the menu → Add to Home screen or Install app. It then opens full screen like an app.
Which browsers work?
Current versions of Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox on desktop and mobile. Very old browsers may not play sound reliably.
I am a complete beginner. Where should I start?
Start with the Warm-ups and the Beginner grooves at a slow tempo, and read How to start playing drums on our blog. Ten to fifteen minutes a day beats one long session a week.
Free and Premium
What do I get for free?
Every Beginner item, one sample from each category at Intermediate and Advanced level, Stick Hits, titles, badges, Mastered and your practice calendar. Stick Hits are earned at the same rate on Free and Premium.
What does Premium add?
The whole library at every level (including Pro), full songs with play-along recordings, the weekly challenges and no ads. Prices are shown on the Premium page.
How do I cancel?
Open Account → Membership and cancel the subscription. You keep Premium until the end of the period you have paid for and are not charged again. Your progress, Stick Hits and badges stay on your account.
Can I get a refund?
Yes — if you are not happy, write to info@stickhits.com within 14 days of your first payment and we will refund it in full. Details are in the Terms of Service.
How is my payment handled?
Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details go straight to Stripe and never reach our server.
Sound and playing
I cannot hear anything on my iPhone.
Turn up the volume with the side buttons while the app is playing, and check that the Drums and Click switches under Sound are on. StickHits plays through the silent switch, but Bluetooth speakers sometimes need a moment to wake up — press Start again if the first bar is quiet.
The click feels late with Bluetooth headphones.
Bluetooth adds a delay of a tenth of a second or more, which you will feel when playing along. For practice, wired headphones or the device speaker are much tighter. If you play on an electronic kit, plug your headphones into the kit and use the device’s speaker or a wired line for the app.
Can I slow a song down?
Grooves, fills, chops and rudiments can be played at any tempo. Full songs follow the tempo of the original recording; to practice a hard part, loop it with Loop part, or switch to App drums to play the notation at your own tempo.
What do the symbols in the notation mean?
Cymbals are written as an x at the top of the staff: hi-hat or ride, with a small circle above an open hi-hat and a short line through a crash. The snare and toms sit in the middle and the bass drum at the bottom. Notes in brackets are ghost notes — play them very quietly. Our post How to read drum notation explains everything in ten minutes.
Stick Hits and progress
What are Stick Hits?
Every note you play along with earns one Stick Hit. They add up into your title and unlock badges. There is a daily cap so the totals reflect real practice, not a tab left running all night.
When can I mark something as Mastered?
After you have earned enough Stick Hits on that item — 10,000 for most patterns, 20,000 for a full song. Then press Mark as Mastered in the player.
Is my progress saved if I switch devices?
Yes. When you are signed in, your progress is saved to your account and appears on every device you use. Display settings such as dark or light mode stay on each device.
Account and privacy
How do I change my name or avatar?
Open Account → Edit profile. You can change your username once every 14 days.
How do I delete my account?
Send a request from the email address of your account to info@stickhits.com, or use the contact form with the topic “Privacy request”. We delete the account and its data within 30 days and confirm by email. Cancel an active subscription first.
What data do you keep?
Only what the app needs: your account details, practice progress and subscription status. The Privacy Policy lists everything.
